You've probably heard it all before right. You need to create a vision, a main aim that you are working towards. From that you can create a plan and then set goals to move you towards your success.
Its all true. But so few people do it! Why?
i think because not many people really understand the power of having a clear vision.
Now a vision has to be inspiring. Not something you HAVE to do. But something you BURN to do. Something you must have in your life. Something that excites you when you think about it.
A vision has to be clear and specific and concise.
Why?
Well, for starters, I firmly believe that if you dont have what you want, then you don't know what it is you specifically want. You might have a vague idea, but it probably isn't the exact thing that you REALLY want. For example, some people want to retire early. Or do they? Most people I know who found great success and financial freedom work more now doing what they are truely passionate about then before they retired. What they want is time to do what they love doing, and they see reitirement, or rather financial freedom as the key. So what they want is THE FREEDOM TO DO WHAT THEY LOVE DOING.
Why wait till retirement. Is there a way you could have that now?
If your vision is to tour the world playing jazz, and you talk of nothing else and you are constantly asking other "successful" people (ie people who are doing or have done what you want to do) how they acheived their goal and learning, and if you know where you will go and you plan and practice ..... YOU WILL GET THERE. But if you are focused on retiring and your definition is not working anymore...... well you are saying to people you dont want to work. And if you dont want to work, then why would the "right" person offer you a tour when you clearly dont want to work?
Get my meaning? Look, even beyond the quantum physics and the ethereal positve thinking ... people can only hear what you are saying, not what you meant to say. Your vision or your elevator pitch or your dream has to be clear and consice enough so that as you come across people in your day to life who have the capacity to help you get closer to your vision, they can hear and recognise what you want and how they can contribute. Otherwise they will just walk on by never knowing you needed them and never having the opportunity for you to help them in whatever way you would return the favour.
One heard about a guitarist who wanted to launch his bands CD but neeed about $10,000 to do it to the level he wanted to do it. He knew it was $10,000 because he had a clear vision of exactly what he wanted to acheive and a plan to acheive it. He just didn't have $10,000. He told everyone he met that he would get a TOP 40 charting hit and that he knew exactly how he would do it. So the story goes that he stumbles across a very wealthy investor and over a beer asks for 20 times what he neede dand tried to impress the investor with a much grander scheme then he actually intended and offered to pay back the amoutn with interest.
The investor said NO! He was a wealthy man who knew well of the power of a clear vision and a REAL plan.
Then a month later the two met up agai, and this time the guitarist swallowed his prode and ego adn the investor asked how the guitarist was going wth his ideas. The guitarist answered, but answered honestly this time. He clearly stated his true vision and laid out his plan to acheive his goals. The investor was so impressed with his conviction and clarity that he gave him $10,000, interest free, with no obligation to pay it back. The only rule was that if the guitarist paid back the $10,000 the investor promised to loan it to the next artist who had a clear vision.
Gist of the story, the guitarist got $10,000 interest free Euros, ran a promotion, got his TOP 40 and sold a bunch of CDs.
A clear vision is a good place to start. And in fact if you don't start there, you will spend a lot of time and energy finding out that going back to the start and developing a clear vision is the only way to get get what you really want.
Now not all visions are the same. An ok vision is better then no vision. Even a vague vision will get you somewhere. But a great, strong, clear, passionate vision will get you anywhere!

Back when my wife and I were recording Winter in December of 2005, our recording engineer Bond said the slip jig "Fig for a Kiss" sounded like soundtrack music.
OK - I'll bite. Have a listen on my page and let me know what you would film over this "soundtrack." Let's see if we can get the script for an amusing 3.5 minute movie.
