Posted May 1, 2013 by cafejazz

This Week at CafeJazz.ca:
From 2011 ... Terry Wollman in the spotlight with Buddha's Ear. In the second part of the show it's time for a dimension of sight and sound we call The Euro Zone. On this occasion our pan-European tour includes Swiss harpist Andreas Vollenweider and Russian born guitarist Eugene K. Also appearing is Italy's S-Tone Inc., Germany's Michael van Droff and as well Scottish guitarist David King!

On After Hours: Hard Times
We've fallen on Hard Times on this the 4th in our cover tune series. Yes these are Hard Times indeed as all the selections are cover tunes, be it from pop, jazz or from regions in between. We have a 13 track set featuring Our Love by Brian Simpson, Fallen from Warren Hill, as well as Club 1600 with Stay; and it's all named for a Queen Latifah take on a track by Dr. Buzzard's Original Savannah Band from 1976. But to begin there's Jeff Golub. From the cd Do It Again, Jeff takes us on a spin with the Stevie Wonder tune Jesus Children of America - on the Hard Times edition!

Dr. Goodfoot” is one of those tracks that is just as fun to play as it is to listen to. I'm so glad the palpable energy we felt in the studio translated to the finished recording. I knew we were doing something right when I couldn't help but dance while playing this. Partially inspired by Grover Washington Jr.’s “Mister Magic,” this track should be accessible to all those who enjoy a funky groove and an upbeat mood.
