This Week at CafeJazz.ca:
From 2012 ... we're featuring a hip trio of tracks from The Main Ingredients by Stuart Wade & Down to the Bone as part of the showcase segment. In the second half, on the Vintage Collection - David Lanz and Paul Speer, Larry Coryell, and Wally Badarou - plus Lyle Mays from the Pat Metheny band, and Ben Dye as Rhythm 'n' Jazz!

On After Hours - A Walk in the Park:
A one hour feature wherein all the selections have the word 'park' as part of the title or band name - in keeping with this we're calling the segment A Walk in the Park and that's after a 1996 Denny Jiosa tune. There are 13 selections with Palmetto Park by The Benoit-Freeman Project, Dancin' in the Park from Mike Gealer, and Thru D Nite from the band Park Lane - on A Walk in the Park edition!

From 2012 ... the sophomore release from Rocco & Rahj called Beach Life on the showcase segment plus the Fresh Trax feature with Eliane Elias and Roberto Vazquez. Also appearing Scott Allman, Drew Simpson, and Lloyd Gregory; while opening is one of our all time favourites - it's from Thom Rotella and it's called Dance the Night Away!

On After Hours - Here to Stay:
... a one-off feature named for a track by Pat Metheny - all the selections have the word stay as part of the title. Included are Stay in Touch by the band Windows and Let's Stay Together from Eric Darius. Also appearing are Special EFX, Ken Navarro, and Stan Berger with the tracks Stay a While, Nothing Stays the Same, and Our Love Is Here To Stay respectively. So after listening to the regular show, be sure to stay with us for After Hours and the Here to Stay edition!

Also appearing are Rocco & Rahj our top debut act; plus newcomers like Richie Cannata and Neamen Lyles; while Vincent Ingala, Oli Silk, 111 East, Fourplay, and Blake Aaron straddle the boundaries of time.

On After Hours - Part 1 in the Best of '11 (cont.):

From 2011 ... in the spotlight on this edition it's the band Watson's Riddle while the second half of the show has new music with Pete Gitlin and Rocco & Rahj. Also appearing are bassman David Hughes, Richie Cannata, and Terrence Young. But Acoustic Alchemy is first up - their cd AArt is now fully ten years old and from that effort we're ready to savor the favor of Senjo Wine!

On After Hours: It Seems to Hang On
Five shows ago, Peter White started our cover tune series with a Jr. Walker & The All Stars tune. So now 60 selections down the road we've come full circle, as today's parting track is a read on another Jr. Walker classic - from Dave McMurray it'll be Walk in the Night. Also cued are Cindy Bradley, Marion Meadows, Chuck Leavell, Stanley Jordan, and A. Ray Fuller. With 12 selections that include Scarborough Fair, So May It Secretly Begin, and Oye Como Va, we're calling the segment It Seems to Hang On for a Paul Hardcastle tune. In the meantime, we begin with a Russ Freeman tribute to the late Grover Washington, Jr.!

Also appearing is Italy's S-Tone Inc., Germany's Michael van Droff and as well Scottish guitarist David King!

On After Hours: Hard Times
We've fallen on Hard Times on this the 4th in our cover tune series. Yes these are Hard Times indeed as all the selections are cover tunes, be it from pop, jazz or from regions in between. We have a 13 track set featuring Our Love by Brian Simpson, Fallen from Warren Hill, as well as Club 1600 with Stay; and it's all named for a Queen Latifah take on a track by Dr. Buzzard's Original Savannah Band from 1976. But to begin there's Jeff Golub. From the cd Do It Again, Jeff takes us on a spin with the Stevie Wonder tune Jesus Children of America - on the Hard Times edition!

... a continuation in our cover tune series named for a Brian Bromberg take on a Jaco Pastorius track. Yes all the selections are cover tunes, be it from pop, jazz or from somewhere in between. There are 13 such selections highlighted by How Long from Mark Barrios, Evil Ways by Fattburger, and Light My Fire with Eliane Elias - as the cover tunes continue on the Continuum edition!

From 2011 ... on this edition, Rob Tardik is featured with Balance.Energy.Laughter.Love. as the showcase release while the Vintage Collection includes music from the 60s by Wes Montgomery and the combo Young-Holt Unlimited. Also highlighted is Pharoah Sanders' track from the 70s while rounding it are Attila Molnar and John Costello from the 00s. The stage is set and the sound check is done.

On After Hours: Take Five
Contrary to the title of the segment, this is take two in our cover tune series. All the selections are cover tunes taken from pop or jazz or somewhere in between. We have 14 tracks and these include Crystal Blue Persuasion by Jill Jenson, Greg Adams with Smooth Operator, and Fields of Gold by Tommy Emmanuel. We're calling the feature Take Five after an Acoustic Alchemy read on the Dave Brubeck classic, and to the best of my knowledge, this is the only cover tune Alchemy has ever recorded!
